FREEZE DRYERS- ALL THE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT 

Freeze Dryers are typically used for the process of freeze-drying. In recent times this process is being used. Freeze drying or Lyophilization is technically a complex drying process at that time in which moisture is being extracted from those frozen things under vacuum conditions. So, maximum active liquid pharmaceutical elements for the pharmaceutical industry are rapidly deep-frozen at the temperature of- 70 to -100 degree C. After that, a frozen material is being dried in a vacuum chamber. Among all types of drying, this freeze-drying takes the losses of ingredients and most minor product changes. This dryer mainly operates in three steps: central drying, freezing, final drying. 

Why is this dryer required?

Nowadays full Dryers are Tray Dryer type. Usually, a product layer on a plate will form a piece of baked and robust material. Sometimes a product needs to be divided after freeze-drying, but it can be the cause of damage to the particular structure of the product. Sometimes the product handling becomes a little bit labour-intensive because these trays have to be discharged and filled manually. To give relief from this problem, active freezing came into existence. For this process, compelling and memorable dryers were emerging, which is known as Freeze Dryers.

This dryer cools some material below the triple point for ensuring the sublimation, rather than melting, which will occur. It preserves the physical form of the materials. Large ice crystals are quickly frozen by this dryer, produced by annealing and slow freezing.

  • This dryer generally produces low pressure and low temperature, a free-flowing, freeze-dried and lump-free product.
  • And obviously, this dryer has the best heat transfer rate due to the constant mixing of products.
  • Also, this can be used in constant operation.
  • This drying process follows a freezing step, which is not so complex because instead of having a separate unit, it can be completed in the same vessel.

We can say that this type of drying works by freezing some materials and then reducing their pressure and at last adding some heat so that it can allow the frozen water into the fabric for changing it directly into a vapour. And Freeze-dried foods contain ninety-seven per cent of nutrients.
